Art for Advocacy: A Deep-Sea Live Show at DHub, Barcelona

In the context of the 2024 UNESCO Ocean Decade Conference, TBA21 launches this satellite international event aimed at promoting inter-disciplinary discussions around the topic of the deep sea, and to reflect on the role of the Ocean in the future of our planet.

The event is a live session unveiling an extraordinary journey into the mysterious and uncharted depths of the ocean. Hosted at Barcelona’s DHub, this event seeks to spark discussions that transcend the boundaries of traditional science, showcasing innovative projects from diverse disciplines and offering unconventional ways to connect with the deep sea.

Through thought-provoking talks, captivating interviews, screenings, and more, the event brings together artists, scientists, policymakers, and ocean experts to explore a unique “amphibious” perspective. By blending scientific discovery with artistic exploration, it creates a vibrant space for interdisciplinary dialogue.

Presented by TBA21 and curated by Antonia Folguera (Sónar +D), this immersive experience invites audiences to witness a groundbreaking collaboration. Together, artists and scientists embark on a shared journey into the enigmatic world of the deep ocean, breaking down the barriers that traditionally separate the creation and dissemination of knowledge.

This is an opportunity to collectively foster a deeper understanding of one of the most elusive parts of Earth. The ocean could be the answer -or at least part of it- to humanity’s most pressing issues and our biggest ally in fighting the effect of climate change. Together, we can think about collaboration, rather than extraction, about making a commitment to regenerate and respect the most expansive part of the blue planet.

The event is organized by TBA21 in collaboration with Disseny Hub BarcelonaSónarSchmidt Ocean Institute, and the Institute of Marine Sciences, with the participation of the Barcelona Supercomputer Center and the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation.
